JEE, NEET Exams may conduct in September
The National Eligibility Entrance Test(NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) have been postponed again and may conduct in September 2020.
The computer based multi-session JEE (main) examinations are going to be conducted from September 1 to September 6, while the JEE (advanced) are going to be persisted September 27, 2020. The pen-paper mode entrance for medical colleges, NEET-UG are going to be persisted September 13, 2020.
A decision which can bring relief to around 25 lakh candidates, the expert committee, chaired by professor V Ramgopal Rao, director, IIT-Delhi, in its report on Friday had recommended postponing the exams in sight of the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
“Safety of the scholars is paramount and keeping that in sight and to make sure quality education we’ve decided to postpone the exams,” said Ramesh Pokhriyal, union minister for HRD.
Subsequent to the lockdown, the competitive exams for engineering and medical admissions were first postponed on May 5. JEE (main) exams were scheduled from July 18 to July 23, while NEET-UG was scheduled for July 26, and JEE (advanced) was scheduled for August 23, 2020.
Around 9 lakh aspirants have registered for the JEE (main) exam, while 16 lakhs have registered for the NEET-UG exams. Raising concern over the worsening of the pandemic, candidates across the country has been demanding the postponement of the exams.
According to a senior HRD official, “The committee in its report recommended postponing the exam after reviewing the prevailing situation. There are an outsized number of centres which fall into the containment zones and enormous areas in Assam and Bihar face floods. Therefore, it might not be possible to conduct the exams within the present scenario.”
