Significance of Guru Purnima(5 July), Ved Vyas, Gautam Buddha

This Year Guru Purnima will held on 5 July. Guru Purnima is celebrated in the month of ashad when there is full moon.

Guru Purnima is made as the birth anniversary of Ved Vyas.

In India, Guru or teacher is revered and seen as godly. A Guru enlightens or educates a child which shapes his future. The Life of a child is in-complete without a Guru.

Guru Ved Vyas

Ved Vyas born in 3000 BC in the month of Ashad when moon was in its full phase.

Ved Vyas is the writer of the epic mahabharata. He also is famous for dividing the all the vedas into four categories namely – Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda. He got his name “Ved Vyas” from the division of vedas.

The Sage Ved Vyasa is considered a mine of learning and knowledge.

Therefore devotees do puja for their Guru and honour them.

Gautam Buddha and Guru Purnima

Gautam Buddha after attaining nirvana or enlightenment gave his first teaching or sermon on the day of Guru Purnima.

He gave his teaching at Sarnath.

This day is important for budhism and buddhist as Buddha gave his first teaching. The men who got their first teaching were the first buddhists.

Lunar Eclipse on Guru Purnima

This time on Guru Purnima we will witness lunar eclipse.

The timing of lunar eclipse is 8:37AM to 11:22AM. This eclipse will not be visible in India.

According to hindu astrology their will be no sutak applicable in India and for indians.
